Naw, we all grit our teeth and LAUGH at those idiots who think that
Spook Hill has anything to do with anything but cattle and horses! The old
story was that something on the hill spooked a herd of cattle, once upon a
time, and that's how it was named. Didn't make the NAACP happy, though. It
was MORE than RIDICULOUS. And, yes, there is a movement here to get rid of
everything with SQUAW in its name...close to a hundred items, from Squaw Peak
Mountain, Squaw Peak Expressway, etc. It will cost tens of thousand of
dollars to change signs, maps, etc.

I am in Phoenix. I like the area around Camp Verde but there's not much
in the way of a good job up there for me, compared to the job I have
now...that I fully intend to retire from as soon as I am eligible! (Won't be
in THIS decade, though!)

It has been around 102 - 105 here recently, but lots of evening
thunderboomers so it is humid. I think I am gonna just take off and go up
north this weekend, ANYWHERE up north!
MR> So I take it your horses are raised for riding in rodeos? Is
MR> that correct?
Nope, my Appy gelding was born on a ranch and used as a cattle horse
until the ranch owner got cancer and sold a lot of his stock. Dub was at a
riding stable owned by a friend of mine for about two weeks - Tommy was
making money hand over fist renting Dub out about 8 hours a day - dudes
really liked him because he did what they wanted to, but was fairly
easy-going. It's what made me fall in love with him. Little did I realize
that once he had a private stall and run, along with proper nutrition, and
was only working a few hours a week, he would get an Appaloosa attitude! He
is MUCH more spirited now, and if I hadn't been taking lessons from an
awesome trainer he would be more than I can handle.
We use all three for stuff like team penning and team sorting just
because there is a stable down the street that had it twice a week. It was
cheap entertainment, ANYONE on ANY HORSE can do well at it as it's got a lot
to do with LUCK! And it's really fun, especially when everyone else is doing
it for fun. I would never compete for money, though.

You don't have year 'round diving in California?
