If you have another PC - a desktop model - it's easy to do this with an 
adapter for the IDE cable...  might cost you $20-25, but it's a far 
sight cheaper than a second-bay adapter for a laptop drive, I'd wager.

All you need is space on the desktop drive equal to the laptop drive 
size... copy to the desktop, shut down, copy to the new drive, expand 
the partition.

I do this sort of thing all the time... make an image of a client's 
laptop and keep the partition on a drive here... when/if the drive 
fries, or they buy another identical laptop, I just clone the partition 
and roll it out the door in under an hour instead of a day with all the 
patches, updates, and program installs.
