Yes.  We had a choice.  I probably could have gone with XP, but, since
Microsoft loves to drop support, I decided not to fight that battle again
(already had to upgrade 3 computer to W2K from Win98).

Correct.

Dell lets you partition a new laptop (for a fee :) ).  So, they gave me a
primary Utilities partition (0xde), a primary Recovery partition (NTFS) and
primary (NTFS) Vista.  Then they left the rest of the drive as an extended
partition.

What do you mean by "copy"?  Some files seem to be missing when I clone.

I was almost going to give up, but your support makes me think I can find a
way, so I'm going to keep trying.
