That used to be true.  However the current Avtek modems are simply rebadged
Motorola Lifestyle modems.

Personally I've seen a few problems with the new Roadsters (not being biast
here by any means)  but they are very suseptable (spelling?) to anything
but a normal telephone line.  ie if the current on your phone system is
just slightly low, they won't opperate.....   ie if your house is a long
way from the telephone exchange
