Understood.  We've carefully looked at our LAN environments (since my
background is really networking) and found that our reliability is pretty 
igh
now.  A few things we found which caused problems were network drivers, low
quality network cards and insufficient buffering on the drivers. The other
problem is open files but this happens on local backups too.  For this we 
ave
found two solutions.  First the Enterprise version of BackUpExec will backup
the files or you can use the OpenFile Manager product, which is a little more
robust in this area.  We've got DLT tape drives running off of NT with a
very high sucess rate for backups but we also have a few hundred workstations
making tape drives for each machine impractical (especially the laptops 
g>)..
