Hello Bob!
BD> I haven't seen much discussion in here about Word 97. Everytime I
BD> re-read the new features, I think "ho hum". One of our more skilled
BD> word processing persons just received Office 97 on his new PC at home.
BD> He uses Office 95 at work and is quite proficient with it. I asked him
BD> what he thought about Office 97 and he said he hates it.
Hmm. I love it...Loads of handy things...
BD> I asked him
BD> why and he specifically mentioned the toolbars. He said its very
BD> difficult to see what the buttons do, since they are grayed out, until
BD> you move your cursor over them. He specifically mentioned the text
BD> justification buttons as being very difficult to see.
A bit exaggerated maybe, but the toolbars have indeed been changed to the
internet explorer 3.0 model. They're quite readable with enough colour depth
(16-bit or more).
BD> I think this is one of Microsoft's dumber ideas and cannot see how it
BD> came out of their useability labs.
They should have left a choice for the new and old style, I agree.
BD> It appears to me that Office 97 may be one of the growing trends in
BD> software -- change for change sake to keep the revenue generation at a
BD> constant pace from installed base of users.
Office 97 is one hell of a useful program with lots of nice features and
shortcuts.
All the best,
Stefan
