it got as far as me.. 

there are many systems downstream of here that have probs with >16k
msgs, although many of them have upgraded recently to software supporting
32k+,

i know of one system that is barfing on 12k msgs (my stat msgs in another
echo specificly :-()
if possible, try to keep msgs below the 16k mark, allowing for some room
for intransit system info.. (ie: say 15.5k max prefered or risk msg not
being distributed far)
