i think loading them in sorted order is approaching the problem from too
low a level.
all you really care about it sounds like, is that when you hit Alt-N it
goes to the next file, alphabetically, that is loaded.  so maybe the
simplest thing to do is create a macro that gets a list of the loaded
files, sorts it [by whatever criteria you wish], then goes to the
next/prev file.  this may also be a more generally useful macro.
fairly easy to write, unfortunately don't have time.  perhaps someone
else can follow this up.
