subject: Re: Dreaded `OS/2 is unable to operate your hard disk`

Ray,

OK, I really have 2 problems. Perhaps I am confusing people between the two.

The first is that after trying to get the Warp partition "copied"
from the W2K machine (which is a PII desktop) to the Laptop, I can't boot
using Vista Bootloader (Get the SYS01475). I have actually tried several
methods to transfer the Warp partition. DFSee clone didn't work using an
external USB drive as transfer. DFSee imagefile didn't work again using
the USB device to transfer. Finally I just tried my trusty old tape drive
(hooked up with Adaptec USB2Xchange which changes SCSI to USB), but, alas I
backed it up with the NTBackup program on the W2K macine and when I tried
to restore it to the Laptop (using the NTBackup (only restore available),
it said the tape had inconsistencies. :(
I thought I might have stumbled on to a better way tonight because I got an
8 GB memory stick recognized under OS/2, but again, couldn't write to it
(using Chris's USB stuff).

The second problem (which the subject of this thread pertains to) is using
the UPDCD CD and trying to boot the Laptop from it. After I see
OS2DASD.DMD (really DANIDASD.DMD) load message (using ALT-F2), then a
cleared screen, hen "Loading, please wait...", followed by a
cleared screen and then DANIS506.ADD message then "unable to
operate" message and beep - system stops.

Funny thing is that I think this Laptop has a SATA drive, but DANIS506 reports PATA.

As to the question "What effect does the HDD have on how the CD
boots?", I thought that when the HDD driver loads the drive letter of
the OS/2 partition has to be consistent? So, if the partition was
originally installed in D:, the drive letter assignment by OS/2 better be
D: or the "unable to operate" will occur.

Also, in this whole process, the Laptop and the W2K machine were never
connected together directty.
