Well the only info that I can give you might be the most helpfull.  Don't go 
through Radio Shack and buy their generic little CB's.  I've been talking on 
and working with CB's for bout 3 years and all of the Radio Shack equiptment 
that I used, wasn't that great.  If you want a good radio, check out the 
Cobra line of CB's and Scanners.  They have got to be the best out there.  In 
my 4x4 I run a Super Star 3900 with a frances 8' antenna and 20 feet of coax 
cable.  18 feet is the minimum amount to use for the best reception on an 8 
foot antenna.  Also the frances 8 foot antenna is made of fiberglass and is 
noted the best.
