Howdy,
Well, I cannot speak for everyone, but I myself grew up listening to
Tomita, Jean-Michel Jarre...I watched a lot of Dr. Who, and loved science
fiction. To me there is just so much more warmth and a certain natural
quality to analog sounds (and they sound spacey as well!!) I DO have an
ESI-32 sampler and the ANALOGUE DREAMSCDROM, and when I compare a sound with
its sampled equivalent, the digital
sounds much harsher. Although digital distortion can be interesting, the
clipping of analog waveforms is "mellower."
I love sampling as well--it can be revolutionary in some
ontexts--but
I love the quirky, tempermental aspects of analog. I've never stopped loving
it. It's unfortunate that it's back in chic because it's driven the prices of
old synths through the roof! It's all a matter of personal taste, I suppose,
eh? What about you: what are your favorite synths and musical influences?
Hope to hear from you soon
                                        Take Care,
                                                Liam
