-> I'm surprised when I see children in public with their parents or
-> children of my friends *demanding* that the parents buy them an
-> expensive item. Then I'm astonished when the parents actually *buy*
-> the item. I don't know which I find more reprehensible, the
-> children's actions or the parents' reactions.
......
-> I suppose when I have a kid & am subjected to the nagging daily &
-> all-year round, I, too, will succumb & buy their silence.
You could always get silence by doing what I sometimes do: Tell the
child that if they don't stop asking they can go to their room.
Of course every parent gives in once in a while, but I think it's good
for kids to learn a bit of deprivation once in a while, too. I'm
sending my kids two or three days a week to the day care during the
summer so I can do some chores and errands (in peace). My kids like to
go on the field trips they have planned. Sometimes they go to the
beach, or a local amusement park, or a museum or whatever. What amazes
me is that the other kids routinely have $$$ spending money for buying
drinks or souveneirs or whatever. I don't see how they can afford to
give their kids $30 allowance a week?!?!?!? (On top of the day care
cost: $78/week/child + cost of field trips)
It's easy to say "no" when your wallet is empty!
