Agree, it is not very clear on it
Select CONNECTIONS from the top menu bar, that drops a window with
other options. From that window select DIRECT CONNECTION, this will open
a dialog box window with you comm ports, data bits, etc. The info
entered will be from your settings and probably correct. If info entered
is correct select OK if not enter correct info then select OK. This will
close all these windows and return you to the terminal mode screen, just
like in 1.53. Then just enter your commands.  Hope this helps.
