Many thanks to G de B for findx(). Works perfectly. And has
all of the bells & whistles (error trapping, etc.) that a
person like me would never figure out how to put in. Or would
struggle with endlessly. Now for the next question. In
addition to a "normal" comma-delimited data base, I want to
code (my "real" use) the
{setv _mlabel,mset01,mset02,,,,, . . .
function in {COMMO}'s COMMO.MAC where I need to get x or n (the
number of times to find a comma on the line -- val(times) in
the macro) as a translation of A=1, B=2, C=3, . . . That's
easily done in ones head for letters near the beginning of the
alphabet, or at the end, but not for "q" for example. I could
stack 26 elseif's, but is there a function that does it
"elegantly" in a couple of lines?
Thanks in advance.
