Ah! a fellow Yamaha player - I bought myself a FG-411-12 a months back 
because I have always loved the sound of a 12 string but I have had this 
feeling that it is reverse strung from the German made 12 string that I 
played for a short while about thirty years ago. I seem to remember that was 
strung with the heavier gauge strings uppermost.
I may be wrong - it is a long time ago and I have only played six strings in 
between.
