Hi Bonnie,
You could always use MPEG-II Layer 3 files for you audio storage.
Layer 3 has the benefit of being very small without distinguishable
loss in audio quality or added noise.
By converting your WAV files (I presume) to MPEG Layer 3 you will
save space. Eg. A 24 Meg WAV comes out as a 3.8 Meg MP3 file.
(This is just one I checked on my HDD)
It's a massive saving and all you need to play them back
is "Winplay 3" -- which does on-the-fly decoding, thus
no need to decode before playback. ;-)
You may be able to find shareware versions of the
Layer 3 encoder, decoder and Winplay on the Internet.
The URL is: http://www.iis.fhg.de/departs/amm/layer3/winplay3/
This way you can have your 22, 32 or 44 kHz 16-bit Stereo WAVs
and save a lot of space!!! ;-)
All the best,
Chris Malone
