They're right - you could embed an ANSI bomb in there, and if you
were running ANSI.SYS that could cause problems. But we were talking
of viruses.

Not to nitpick, but that's ASCII and the extended character set.
That's all you can display. There is no fundamental difference
between "pure binary" and "a character" - it's all a matter of how
you chose to interpret it.
