JK-> Those who know my good name in the BASIC programming community know
JK-> that I have donated very many quality sections of source code to the
JK-> public domain, not the least of which were my LANSI and ARDAF
JK-> programs
JK-> -- something you don't come by every day for free.
JK->
Amen to that. I have appreciate such postings from you, Jamshid.
JK-> This is my warning:
JK->
JK-> Should this EVER happen again to any of my code I will not only stop
JK-> posting public domain code. I will stop being helpful. I will
JK-> revoke
JK-> the right to use ANY of my copyrighted code which I have always
JK-> distributed freely.
May I offer an observation, not meant to incite you. Please listen,
and understand my tone is as a caring user, and an experienced sysop
and an online friend you may never meet, but cares about this issue.
Stop helping?
That's unrealistic, and a tad naive on your part. You know it may
happen again, and it is beyond your control. With all the good
people of this large world who use the bandwidth, a few crapasses
will do certain no-good things. It's up to you to deal with them
as you may, and move on. The reason you should continue offering
your excellent service is because there are many more needy users
and good people out there than there are such as the guy or gal
who bastardized your writing. We all need to overcome our desire
to "disconnect" when we know we're doing a good thing. We all
need to work together.
What you really fail to realize, in your anger, is that it's not
a matter of if it happens, but when. Not only should you consider
this form of plagerism an honor (in a sick, perverse way!) but also
you should realize that the information is more important than
how it's presented. The information matters more than ego, than
sharing, than really anything else. Why? BECAUSE THERE IS A NEED.
Finally, Jamshid, I really appreciate you posting those things and
ask you to continue to do so in the near and far future so long as
you have fingers, have a computer, and there is a phone company.
All you can do is post a correction, and deal with the scum, but please
don't lose sight of your love of this hobby, and the need you serve.
Have I spoken eloquently and supportively? I hope so, that was my
intent, sir. Do as you see fit, but it's our loss, and a shame that
would be, indeed.
