-=> Quoting Sondra Ball to Robin Arnhold <=-
Hi, Sondra,
SB> That's true. The granddaughter of a neighbor of mine had kids try to
SB> rape her during recess. She was in first grade at the time; and the
SB> "rapists" were in first, second, and third grade. They had her on the
SB> ground, and her clothes off, before anyone saw what was going on. The
SB> mother sent her to school the next day.
Horrid and horrid again! I wonder what that mother was thinking of. Too
many adults underplay the importance things like this have on the
psychological development of a child.
SB> If that had been *my* kid, she wouldn't have been in school the next
SB> day; and if something wasn't done to the "offenders" to make sure it
SB> didn't get repeated to another child, there would have been a law suit
SB> instituted against the school in a few days.
D*mn right!
SB> Several law suits have been instituted against schools in the USA over
SB> the past few years for not preventing "sexual harrassment", and
SB> parents are almost always winning.
It's about time the school systems figure out that in addition to
teaching the standard curriculum, they have to teach students how to
interact with each other in a respectful way. Too often they turn a
blind eye and say 'kids will be kids'.
There was one lawsuit in the northern part of the state several years ago
in which a homosexual student brought suit against the school district
because they had done nothing to stop the serious harassment this student
endured because of his sexual orientation. I was very glad when he won
the suit.
Take care,
Robin
