1600x1280 makes no sense. :-) Most large CRT displays that claim a maximum of
1600x1200 can actually do up to 2048x1536. What you should choose is really a
personal preference thing. Best quality requires using a resolution that uses
up every bit of the actual dot pitch of the display. If the CRT dot pitch
calculates to 1575 DPI horizontally, then to use it all requires a choice of
at least 1600x1200.

96 DPI is really only good for low resolutions and/or people with excellent
eyesight. For people using OS/2 with normal or bad vision 120 should be used
for any resolution above 800x600. The font size and icon size you simply need
to test and set according to personal preference. The refresh rate to use is
also a personal preference thing. Al this also depends on how far away you
sit from your screen.

Weak old eyes don't see flicker like youthful eyes, so I standardize on a 60
refresh to keep the different graphics adapters and modes used on my many
puters from requiring any more than a minimum of display controls adjustment.
Most people recommend avoiding anything that low for a CRT. People who use
only one puter and one display and only one or a few operating systems don't
experience this issue. For LCD, 60 is a standard that has nothing to do with
flicker.
