When it comes to their film library, Disney is *very very* protective! I
would try everything you can to borrow a film from a friend, a homeschooler's
association library, a public library, or perhaps if you have a teacher
friend in a public school s/he can borrow a video from the district. At last
resort, you can watch for given shows on The Disney Channel. You may tape
them with your VCR and then watch them when they are appropriate to your
curriculum. But then you are supposed to erase them or tape over them!
(Disney Channel used to be very detailed in their channel magazine, putting
down even the little 'shorts' that they were going to show. It was wonderful
for homeschoolers or for teachers. Unfortunately, they stopped. Someone told
me that they did that because their stuff was getting taped and never erased,
which of course is in violation of copyright. Of course I'm also pretty sure
that many of us are not that perfect when it comes to copyright. Grin.)
Disney is also fussy when it comes to the copyrights on their characters. If
a teacher or homeschooler buys the decorator package containing the character
from a store and displays it, that's fine. But there is not supposed to be
copying involved. A preschool in Florida painted Disney figures on their
walls - Disney insisted that they paint over them or pay them royalties to
use the figures. (Painting was cheaper.) One time I copied a few Disney
figures using an opaque projector, and my principal told me I couldn't use
them in the classroom.
Disney DOES make information available for teachers. A friend visited Epcot
and collected a packet for me, sending it to me. It was really good stuff.
Some of the stuff even contained references to some of the Disney library
films. That was interesting!
