PE> AT\V9
PE> AT%U2

Whoops, this was a deadly combination. After 7 aborted calls, none
of which returned a "CONNECT" string, but instead other stuff to
signify connection, I can document:

AT\V9 and AT%U2 do not return CONNECT anything
AT\V8 and AT%U2 do not return CONNECT anything
AT\V1 and AT%U2 seem to produce the best CONNECT string
AT\V8 and AT%U0 return a CONNECT string with "REL" in it, no more
info.
AT\V0 and AT%U0 (default) return just CONNECT xxx

I have not tried:
AT\V9 and AT%U0

Anyway, one thing this has shown is that I am getting solid
connects at 26400 instead of 28800. BFN. Paul.

P.S. What I was trying to achieve in the first place was a single
line connect string that told me what EC was used, and whether
compression was on.
