Indeed, lately I checked on the fare to New York from Amsterdam. It was
some 359Euro. When I depart from Brussels though and take the extra flight
to Amsterdam to connect there it is 329Euro. ???
Twice I was on business in Pittsburgh and wanted to visit a friend of mine
in Lexington (Kentucky). There are no direct flights so I had to go via
Detroit. Meaning they issued a ticket Pittsburg-Detroit, Detroit-Lexington
and Lexington-Detroit and came out at 7$ (that is SEVEN dollars). The
ticketing lady of KLM herself said she didn't understand it but that is
what the system told her. In Detroit they thought the fare was so
ridiculous Northwest double-checked .... 7$ alright.

Be prepared for the financial shock and don't plan too many expenses.
Europe at the moment is expensive for Americans.
