Thats the way to do it. The good thing about using that approach is that the
"latest and greatest" may indeed not even be a new version, and still cheaper
than the current version. I myself may pick up Corel 5 (which has a number of
nice improvements that I could use) and it is now going for cheap as well
since its not the "newest".
MF> I was given Windows 95. Even today, 99% of the applications I use
MF> are Windows 3.1 and DOS applications.
Same scenario for myself as well. However '95 is far too "heavy" for the
machines I have. Since most of my apps (as in your case) are DOS & Win 3.1
apps as well, I can't justify the upgrading required for the machine to use
it
(especially when I don't need it).
MF> I still occasionally produce DOS based database programs for people
MF> who have no need for Windows.
No need or no possibility of use. I program for a living, and its astonishing
how many offices are still filled with XTs. Talking with a LAN administrator
I
know very well, it all comes down to cost. The cost of a large corporation to
replace 100s of machines and software is far too costly for the gains that
are
received (which to a LAN admin is usually very small - as long as it works,
why fix it?).
...
All the best,
