Jamshid (Quin) I can understand your outrage, a relative had a
drawing of his from a book he publishes appear in another commercial
publication that gave no credit to him and implied authorship. He
found it accidentally.
It was easy to locate the persons responsible but took considerable
effort to get any admission of fault. The diagram was slightly altered
so they claimed it was coincedence though almost everything was
identical including minor imperfections.
Frequenting the echos and usergroups you must have come across the
type of behavior that anonymity can generate. The person who did the
deed would, unfortunately, probably be pleased at your annoyance.
I read the faq that was posted by someone other than you in the Qb echo
that did give credit to you. (I recognized your style anyhow.) You are
a valuable resource and it would be sad to lose you because of such
behaviour.
I've seen several disputes where people were caught changing the names
of posters of specific messages to cause harm or taking credit for things
they didn't write. The ease of access and freedom of this medium make
these things inevitable. Warning the appropriate people and correcting
the hacking by making it publicly known, as you have, seems the only
solution for now.
I think that there should be a way when illegality is suspected to get
the name of anonymous posters using a masterlist allowing no handles for
initial log on as Micro$oft net is doing.
Doug.
