| subject: | Re: In U.S., fear and distrust of Muslims runs deep |
From: Ellen K.
I don't know who all the other groups are/were, but "Anglo" and
"Christian" are not synonymous. The Baader Meinhof group were
not Christians and would probably be insulted if you called them
Christians, in view of Marx' statement that religion is the opiate of the
masses. I'm not familiar enough with the IRA to know whether they consider
themselves Christians, but everything I ever read about them indicated they
were Irish nationalists as opposed to e.g. agitating for the practice of
Catholicism over Protestantism.
It is a fact that the Islamic terrorists claim their acts are religious in
nature. It is also a fact that Islamic clerics make statements supporting
the terrorist acts, and are rarely -- if ever -- contradicted by other
Islamic clerics. These two facts are what make the public believe Islam is
waging war on the non-Islamic world, particularly when some of the
statements explicitly so state.
