This is off thread, but on topic. The Tennessee Attorney General has just
issued two rather damning opinions (for your reference #s 96-079 and
96-080). They deal with the right of citizens to defend themselves.
According to the AG, there ain't no such critter. Citizens have a statutory
ability to defend themselves (not a right). He claims that this is
established in common law (both English and the derivative American
versions). Therefore, there is not a "right" to self defense, nor has there
ever been one. This, to me, is chilling. If they come for me, I will
exercise both my right to defend myself and my ability.
