JW> So, I'm looking for an Amp and CD player in the $1500 price range
JW> (each) and am looking for suggestions.

JW> The Bryston 3B catches my eye as do some of the VTL amps...and
If your looking at Bryston, you also might want to consider
Classe. Their 100watt lists for $1400, and I've got a buddy
driving Maggie 2.6s with their 200watt model. Both appear
solidly built, but since my tastes lean towards tubes, I
wasn't that serious on comparisons.
JW> for CD I am considering the Linn.
Which is what I wound up getting. I shopped everything from
$600 to < $2000. There doesn't seem to be many 1 piece players
in the $1500 range. Besides the Mimik, I got serious about the
Naim CD3 (but its closer to $2k), and didn't really like the
EAD 1000. The Meridian receives alot of attention, but I lack
a local dealer for auditioning.
GG> Meanwhile, for a CD player, I'd follow reccomendations Stewart
GG> Pinkerton sent me (someone I really trust on rec.audio.high.end). It
Agree with Stewart being trustworthy...

 GG> Marantz CD-17

My picks at $1500/$1000/$600 are:
Linn Mimik (thru Linn Wakanda / Golden Tube SE-40 / JMLab 6.1
speakers)
Acurus (concerned w/ reliability and might be harsh)
Sony XA3ES (thru receiver driving PSB Alphas in bedroom)
Happy listening!
