| subject: | Re: `UNABLE TO TRAIN` FAX PROBLEM |
On 14 Feb 96 07:46:38, Greg Young emerged from Reality to speak some more about "UNABLE TO TRAIN" FAX PROBLEM GY> Greetings Russel GY> Be nice if it was as easy as lack of paper, unfortunately that is not GY> the problem, wont "train" for either a fax machine or a PC. Any other GY> suggestions? Regards Greg :) 'scuse the interruption Greg... Your problem sounds like the one I had when I first used Quicklink II faxmodem software. It wouldn't receive faxes at all and had a lot of trouble "training" on fax transmissions. My fix was to go into the Quicklink setup menus and set the *data* rate at 9600 and the terminal type as TTY (yep, TTY). I don't know why the data settings should have *any* effect on the faxing; but it worked. Of course this meant I couldn't use Quicklink for modeming (without a lot of hassle) but this was no great loss as I was using Telix anyway :) I left the Quicklink *fax* settings as Group 3 Class 2, ie: a standard 9600bps fax. My 14.4k faxmodem works fine now with 99% of all fax machines/faxmodems. If yours is one of the older 4800bps (transmit) faxmodems I think you will need to set it as a Class 1 ?? What software are you using anyway? Fraser ...
