-=> Quoting James Prior to Donna Ransdell <=-
DR> As for socialization, most of it is negative that I've seen. I'm not
DR> thrilled with it. Besides, most homeschoolers get involved in a
DR> homeschool support group with park days, field trips, an dother
DR> "schoolish" activities.
JP> And a majority of them are being taught at home by parents that have
JP> dropped out of school without completing highschool.
Mr. Prior, just where are you getting these "facts"? The things you
are spouting are totally opposite to all the statistics and research
that I have seen. I would really like to see your sources.......
Have no idea what
JP> a lesson plan is for, or what education is all about.
Mr. Prior, this OPINION is absolutely groundless..... start putting
your money where your mouth is and show or cite some proof for your
outrageous claims.
BTW, for someone with the education you claim to have, you seem to
have difficulty with the simple mechanics of composition. I would
assume that someone with a masters in education would be able to
write in complete sentences.
If you think
JP> that I am talking about socialization outside the classroom, maybe you
JP> better go back to school.
JP> I was refering to the student having to put up with the name calling
JP> and the missing of assignments, the "put-downs" as well as the
JP> "lift-ups" from the other students. This thing they used to call
JP> character that is missing in our society since the mid-60's.
WHAT??????????? What does peer pressure have to do with character????
JP> Children, in our society today need a lot better education than they
JP> can get at home. Not just the 3 R's, but the rest of the alphabet
JP> thrown in to boot. and one or two adults cannot do it alone.
Again, Mr. Prior, you show your wonderful grasp of English
composition.
JP> I noticed that there was no rebuking me for the statement that less
JP> than 1/10 of 1 percent of the homeschooled students ever make it into
JP> college...
There were rebukes. I for one have tried to ignore your ignorant
rants which show that you know absolutely nothing about
homeschooling. If you are a product of public schools then all you
are doing here in this echo is giving homeschoolers more of a reason
to continue.
the reason is not because of lack of money....the reason is
JP> because of lack of being able to keep up with the rest of the students.
No, Mr. Prior, homeschool students are showing everyday that they can
not only keep up with their peers in college but are in many
instances doing even better.
JP> Don't get me wrong, your child may or may not be the brightest kid in
JP> the world....the fact is that a majority of homeschooled children will
JP> wind up dropping out before they ever finish highschool.
Please cite your references here. You are spouting your OPINION as a
fact backed up by statistics. I believe fact and fiction are covered
in second grade English classes. If you need help I can get my 7 year
old homeschooled daughter to help you.
And I have
JP> to tell you this, the idea that a GED is as good as a diploma from an
JP> accredited school is no more than a make believe story.
JP> I am not sorry if I offended you, not if it made you stop and think
JP> for just a minute about what is best for the child. And no way can you
JP> convince me that a parent is a better teacher than the professional.
JP> If that were the truth, then the students in Bangledesh, Somalia and
JP> Zaire are the most educated students on the face of the earth......they
JP> learn everything from their parents.
I think you need to read this paragraph again. If you actually meant
it the way you wrote it and you got your education in a public
school, then you make a very strong case for homeschooling.......
