subject: dumb tv shows

There's a new tv show on this season, I haven't actually sat and watched a
whole episode yet (too bloody much else to do really!) but I've caught bits
of episodes here and there, including tonight.

The show is "Threat Matrix". Any of you guys watch this yet?

I have a few problems with it, based on the bits of it that I have watched:

o They use all sorts of gee-whiz technology, half of which doesn't exist
and the other half of which doesn't do what they show it doing. Like being
able to zoom in endlessly on a photo for ever-increasing levels of detail,
to cite just one example.

o They show bunches of "agents" of all different government
departments flawlessly cooperating all over the country, and things going
off as they should, rather than in any way like they probably would.

o They present "the patriot act" and other aspects of their
anti-terror propaganda as a "good thing".

That last point is one that I think bears some discussion. I commented
this evening that perhaps this was hollywood's way of trying to
propagandize people in this society to be more accepting of this stuff,
that all they have to do is slap the "anti-terrorism" label on
something and they can take you away, to anywhere they want, to keep you
locked up, with no due process, no lawyer, and no freakin' hope of ever
getting out...

My sweetie commented to me that perhaps it was hollywood's way of waking
people up, warning about these dangers instead.

Me, I think that this is too unlike hollywood's typical approach to
things, and that it's way too optimistic regarding the sheeple in this
country.
