Well I procrastinated installing QMwin95 for several months partially due to
misplacing my books.
I can't say that I am much more than luke warm about it either because of
some of the "features" it has. I am comparing this against MSI's QMpro
v1.53 dos SO it isn't like comparing apples and oranges.
Arranging phone book icons. In 153 you get the choice of ascending or
descending by connects. In win, your supposed to, but the choice of ascending
and descending is not given to you. It is in ascending order with the most
connects at the end. Why at the end. One would think that the most connects
would be the most popular BBS and therefor at the start of the list.
Convert phone book.
Notice on page 228 it provides you with a window to select your old phone
ook
from. Where is the one for DOS 1.5x? Not there is it? Its not listed in the
book, but your supposed to automatically know that 1.5X is also v4.xx+
nother
bad move.
OLX
In 1.53 you have a radio button or from the terminal screen you can use
ALT-M. But in QMW I see no way to access it, nor is there anything in the
x.
External protocols.
In 1.53 it is simple, you can even set up a macro for it if you want, but
nothing is mentioned in QMW. Haven't tried it yet, but wonder if it could
still be set up as a macro and what about the host area with the same
question.
HOST
In both 153 and QMW they talk about security levels in the area of 1 or
higher. But anything higher than a 1 does nothing extra, so why not just not
talk about a level 0 being a user and a level 1 being a sysop and leave it at
that?
Modem commands.
In 1.53 you could access your modem from the terminal screen. In that screen
you could send commands to your modem and even direct dial without loading
it in the phone book. Sure there is a manual dial, but MSI techs say you
can't get into terminal mode to enter a phone number or modem commands. The
modem can be manipulated from the options window, but it can't.
Screen colors.
When I jumped to DOS in 153 it was easy to read what was on the screen as the
colors were the same as if you were in direct contact with whatever you were
reading instead of through a shell command, but in QMW what you are reading
is so dark it is almost impossible. Example, I play L.O.R.D. In 153 I can
read the screen with no problem, but in QMW I have to have the room lights
ff
and the room almost dark because the same screen I could read in 153 in
almost black. Again, the techs claim it is not the program, but the sysops
fault. Now why is t the sysops fault if it is readable in dos 153 but not
QMW.
Well there's my gripes folks. If you have any of the answers, please let me
know the answers, I'll try them to see if they work for me. In the mean
time, I hope that the techs and programmers will look into what I have to say
and try for a fix, if they read this echo.
