I worked extensively with Lucas on early alternators (replacing dynamos -
remember them?) and found both them and their products _EXCELLENT_.

The Lucas problem was the sales farce, which cut specifications instead of
prices and led to 96% of Lucas-equipped vehicles running around with
underspecified components.  Of course they were going to fail.

But the epithet: "Lucas, Prince of Darkness" belongs to sales,
not product or engineering.
