subject: USR Courier News?

Hi everybody,

There seems to be quite a lot of activity at USR recently. I just read
on the internet (the newsgroup comp.dcom.modems) that on 20/2/96, USR
released new US/Canada code for the Courier dated 23/01/96 with "caller
ID and distinctive ringing support". I have no idea whether this is true
or not, although the USR WWW page (see http://www.usr.com) lists the
following features for the Courier v.34:

Software Downloads via Flash ROM
Universal Connect TM
Quick Connect TM
U.S. Robotics V.Everything TM Modem Technology
Adaptive Speed Leveling TM (ASL)
Caller ID <---------------------------------------------------
Distinctive Ring <--------------------------------------------
Carrier Loss Redial <-----------------------------------------
Remote Configuration
Dial Security with Dialback
Asynchronous/Synchronous Communication
Automatic Fax/Data Detection <--------------------------------
Microsoft Plug An Play <--------------------------------------
Stampede TM Remote Office TM Gold Client Software <-----------

Does anyone know what is going on with the Courier?

Are the features I marked with arrows new features for the Courier?

Will caller-ID and distinctive ring require hardware upgrades for the
Courier, or does the current Courier hardware have enough grunt to cope
with these new features?

BTW, USR has totally changed its WWW site. A few Courier files (in
particular the latest USA/Canada SDL code) seem to have been taken off
(on both WWW and FTP sites), due to some problem with US export
restrictions. I wonder what these new changes mean for Aussie customers
- probably nothing, because the Aussie distributors seem too lazy to do
anything themselves!
