The V.34 enhancements increase by one the number of bits per symbol at the 
higher symbol rates. On a line with a good noise margin but restricted 
bandwidth due to long access lines or some other reason, these can be used to 
give higher connect speeds than otherwise possible with the current version 
of V.34.
With V.34:
Think symbol rate, think frequency bandwidth required.
Think number of bits per symbol, think Signal to Noise ratio required.
