Rod, I believe my USR can Speedshift from 19200 to 31200 WITHOUT a RETRAIN.

Today I polled my Boss (He's running your code) and as my modem picked up

the line I could hear LOUD windy noises though the speaker. I still went

ahead just to see what would happen.



I connected at 19200 instead of the usual 33600 and took on 70k of mail with

a CPS starting around 400cps, lingering on 700cps for a while, then building up

and up.

Niether modem asked for a retrain, I ended up with 914 Blers and yet

when I finished the call it reported 31200/31200.

I speed shifted right up from 19200 to 31200 without retraining (if this 

is possible) and the modems just hung on and did not drop out due to line

noise. Am I impressed, Who needs HST.

I can not work out the recv/xmit level though (14.1/12.1), It actually looks

better than the normal 17.2/12.1
