On the 20 mirror's I've ground on a machine (4 1/4 to 16 inch), I never
used pitch, so I can't comment on how well it can/can't work to attach the
mirror to the machine.

I merely used a plywood fixture with three adjustable cleats to hold the
mirror (or tool).  The arrangement of the cleats was essentially just the
same as the cleats on a grinding stand that users of 'armstrong' grinding
favor.  ;-
)
