        That sounds like the modem is locking up (that screen and 
        speed should update correctly.) :-(
        Did the connection to that site work correctly with older
        code?             
        Have you tried setting S193=0 to disable serial plug-n-play?

Thanks for the suggestions. Hans gave a few ideas to try and his
suggestions got everything working execept I still do not get the TX speed
in the display. I was sending my S regs settings via the init string. Hans
suggested I write the settings to NRAM. This idea works much better
although I have no idea why it should. I will try the S193 setting and see
how that works.
