I used to use a BBS door kit called FKFOSSIL. It allowed me to do this:

procedure fx_nulllostcarrier;
begin
end;
{$F-}
(* ------------------------------------------------------------------------
fk_lostcarrier := fx_nulllostcarrier;
and the fk_lostcarrier will then do whatever was in fx_nulllostcarrier (in
this case, nothing).
