The 56k line check won't do much but tell you if your installation is capable
of X2 or not. If you want to check the other features you can do so without
any special tools. You'll need a fairly large file (the larger the file the
more accurate the result) in both plain text and zipped versions. Note: the
_same_ file in both cases.
Connect to a system and upload the text version, and time how long it takes
(use a stopwatch, not the system). Then upload the zipped file and time
that. Repeat the process with your modem's data compression disabled.
Compare the times.
You can do the same thing using downloads instead of uploads, but it may be
difficult to find a decent size pure text file.
