I find I prefer to speak to Germans in German, because I know what words I
understand but not necessarily what words of English _they_ understand.

With other bilinguals the language for a sentence is set if there's a
particular word you want to use that isn't the same in the other language -
or if it's a technical term.  I just had a conversation with a German
bilingual about revenue recognition - the part that concerned US
legislation was in English, but he wanted to use the German term
"zugesicherte Eigenschaften" and the rest of the conversation was
in German.
