The message from Stuart Dubois rises higher:
C>I bought this album on CD a couple of days ago. It's the first time
C>I've heard the whole thing for at least 15 years and I've got to say
C>that I'm stunned. This album is wonderful. Dare I say it, but I'd even
C>say that I like this album over any other Beatle album.
SD> Blasphemy! First you don't like ELP, and now this? Where did we go
 SD> wrong?
SD> Anyway, I could say the same thing about _MMT_. The White Album

 SD> some Harrison stuff).
For me, it flows better than _Magical Mystery Tour_, but I will not put
down _Tour_ because it contains some of my favorite Beatle stuff
("Flying," "Blue Jay Way," and "Walrus" especially). However, _The
Beatles_ seems to be much more of a cohesive unit. I don't know why
exactly. Plus, there's such a wide variety of styles on it; more than
any other Beatle album. It affects me on an emotional level that the
other Beatle albums don't.
C>What I like so much about this is the wide range of styles and ups and
C>downs. It's the most Progressive of any of their albums, too. A couple
C>of the songs are obvious King Crimson influences. The only song that I
C>could really do without is "Revolution 9."
SD> Yeah, but that "number 9" thing was a major ... event of the 70's, and
 SD> is  remembered by anyone who got familiar with the album.  number 9;
 SD> number 9
Like I've said more recently, I now even like that song.
SD> White Album is a masterpiece, though, in that they did so much and
SD> kept the energy levels so high. It's still the Beatles. The worst
SD> part of White is still better than Spector's mess on _Let It Be_.
Well, _Let it Be_ has some good stuff, but a lot of it does nothing for
me. I've never cared for that "Everybody had a wet dream" song,
whatever it's called.
Back to _The Beatles_, though. I'm just so amazed at how this has
affected me. I fully expected to not like much of it at all, but I was
proven completely wrong.
