SG> JS> He was describing the Phlanx ship defense system that uses a 20mm
SG> JS> vulcan cannon, and informed me that the gun used 'depleted titanium
SG> JS> rounds'. Must be heck on the barrel walls, eh? :-)
SG> JS> But they are going to be making a 10 round, huh? I saw an 8, yes
SG> JS> eight, round .357 of theirs. The cylinder must have been 2" in
SG> JS> diameter...
SG>How does one "deplete" titanium anyway? Oh, the depleted uranium in those
By making Franklin Mint special edition plaques of the world's flags with
it... :_)
SG>rounds is only the core anyway, so maybe his "depleted titanium" would be
SG>too.
:-) Man, I know Uranium is a bloody hard metal, a real terror to
machine, much like titanium. It's in the same period as tungsten,
molybdenum, and chromiumin the periodic table, so it figures.
SG>I've seen the 8-shot .357, actually didn't seem that much bigger than
SG>their 7-shot. I'd have to guess that they're using their .44 frame and
SG>cylinder (though I've never seen them side by side to compare).
AR says it's lighter, due to less mass in the cylinder (more holes). :-)
I think selling is going to be around $350-$400 for the blue, As much as
I'd love a nice heavy 6.5", I think I'm better off wtih the 689, full
underlug and vented rib, in 6". I can do without the integral porting
too, thankyouverymuch.
SG>As far as the 10-shot, I can only go by what people who should be
SG>knowledgeable tell me - and they say yes. I have no more direct knowledge
SG>of Brazil than the next guy. Think they'll put a .22 in their .44 frame
SG>and make a 12-shot next?
Oh boy. I think they could get more than 12 in there... who knows. I
lose track after 10 anyway.
