The way I learned was that converting from a big-endian 32-bit value
to a 32-bit little-endian value is really a two step process.

1)  The bytes in each 2-byte pair are swapped.  (BADC)
2)  The 2-byte pairs themselves are swapped.  (DCBA)

I think that the only difference between these two approaches is in
the semantics.
