The simplest way is to do a Delete query on Table A (Put the word Delete
in
the first column and use no check marks) and then use Tools/More/Add to add
the resulting table called "Deleted" to Table B.
If you delete the wrong things by this method, you can put them back by
using Tools/More/Add to add the Deleted table back into Table A. To get the
hang of what will be moved from one table to the other this way, leave out
the
word "Delete" and press the F6 key while in the first column. That puts a
check mark in every field and when you press F2 you will get an Answer table
instead of a Deleted table.
If you need to do this regularly, say to put last month's information into
an archive table, you can probably find a way to write a generic query that
can be used every month.
Once you are sure you have the right query and you tried it and it works,
you can use Scripts/QuerySave to save the query as a script which can be used
again and again. To automate the rest of the process, you will have to
create
some dummy data you can delete later, since many operations that work fine
when there's data, fail when the result tables have nothing in them.
Press F3 to start recording your keystrokes after the query is on screen,
press the following keys in this order:
   F2, F10, S, P, Enter.
Highlight the name you saved the query as, then press:
   Enter, F2, F10, T, M, A, Enter, Enter, Enter.
Highlight the name of Table B, press Enter again and if the second table
is
a keyed table (which it should be,) choose NewEntries. When it has finished
adding the table, press F3 to stop recording keystrokes. You have now
created
a script called "Instant". Rename it to something that makes sense, like
"Movedata". To use it in the future, use Scripts/Play and choose Movedata.
You can also edit the script using Scripts/Edit or it can be edited like
any text file in DOS 5.0 or higher with the EDIT command. You would want to
edit it if you made mistakes, or if you want to clean up the operation a
little. For instance, a command like
IF ISEMPTY "Deleted" THEN RETURN ENDIF
after the first Do_It! will prevent you from error messages when you
accidentally run it twice in a row or at any other time when there's actually
nothing that can be moved with that table.
Another example is if you want to change the query each time you run it,
say to move fields with a certain name that would be different each time.
Then, you would add a WAIT statement like
   WAIT TABLE UNTIL "F2"
before the Do_It! in the script.

Thus, as you learn more and more techniques and become familiar with PAL
commands and functions, you will be able to refine the script as you go
ong.
   Hope that helps.

Subj: Network error

We have a problem with Paradox Runtime and Novell Network. When I start up
PfW Runtime I allways get the message:
 Network initialization failed
 Directory: H:\DATALOY\WORKING\
 File: H:\DATALOY\WORKING\PDOXUSRS.NET
 Cannot access network lock file.
 Continue with network desabled?

Well, the file is accessable, shareable and I have Supervisor access to the
catalog. I run WfW v3.11 and the PDXRWIN.EXE dated 7. des. 94 (155472 bytes)
Have anyone else experianced this problem and maybe could give me some help?
