RS> Yup, the cartoon was made by Disney.
RS> I read the reference to Gerrold's inspiration in his book called "The
RS> Trouble With Tribbles."
RS> You're talking to a charter trekker, having started watching in 1966,
RS> when I was 6 years old and the monsters scared the SNOT out of me.
RS> Heck, I named my first cat, "Tribble."
RS> Speaking of cats and Trek, why is it the Next Generation writers kept
RS> screwing up Data's cat "Spot's" sex?
RS> In the first several years he was male, but then he(she?) had a litter
RS> of kittens!
RS> Not only that, Spot changed appearance!
RS> That scene in the first NG movie where Data finds Spot in the wreckage
RS> of the Enterprise had me crying, too!
RS> How about the rest of you? Any explanation for Spot's change of sex
RS> and appearance, other than just the obvious?
RS> Otherwise, how many here remember the other cat in Trek, namely the
RS> crew member from the animated series, "M'Ress?"
RS> And who can remember who did her purring voice?
RS>
Hi, I believe it was Majel Barret Roddenberry who did M'Ress' voice
as for Spot's changes, I guess they don't think cats are important
enough.
I've started watching Star Trek in 1966, too, when I was 11.
Now I know we have a cat hater in NG, Will Riker, Spot gave
him a claw mark to make that point. ha ha!!
... Fur is a renewable resource, as anyone who grooms a cat knows.
