Well you're gunna
I can't put my hands on the original Press release at this time, but the
stuff below might give you an idea.
I know I am wastin my time and yours here, But I also think USR are wastin
there time even thinking about this modem.
They offered 200 of them FREE to the first 200 people that called them.

I suggest you pass on to the pakageing dept. that they would want to
make that clear on the package. I havew users ask me *EVERY DAY* about
modems. One of the first things I suggest is that they *DON"T* get a RPI
modem.

Hello Joe,
-> If they are used with Windows and the proper terminal program, I
-> expect winmodems will work pretty well.
-> There is no "proper" terminal program, it works with the
applications
-> you are using now. Procomm/Win, Telix/Win, your favorite net
-> browser, or whatever. It is not an RPI modem, and does not suffer
-> from the peculiarities of RPI. It does not need any RPI driver and
-> does not need any "special" terminal program.
-> But I expect some of them will be sold with no mention of the special
-> needs.
-> The only requirement is Windows, and that's pretty hard to overlook
-> or misunderstand.
I want to thank you Joe Bub, for clearing this entire debate about a
topic that essientially boils down to "there is nothing wrong with this
piece of hardware if used as instructed." Your short `matter of factly'
replies are more efficient and taken more seriously than any long winded
"modem guru" could ever possibly hope quip out.

RT> Could you tell two things please? What is the software supplied with a
RT> WinModem, and what is the largest "frame" or page size?
Alright, three
The Winmodem is a controllerless modem. The software supplied
is what tells the host computer how to handle all the error control,
data compression, AT commands, etc. It also controls how the computer
actually talks to the modem (it emulates a serial port and UART). By
largest "frame" size are you refering to the largest LAP-M packets
that it'll negotiate? If so, I'm not entirely certain, but I think
it's only 128 bytes.
RT> things, does it have Cellular support?
No. It's basically just a regular Sportster only with all the
controller functions handed over to the host computer and the Windows
software.
