GP>Yes, we have even more oil than the Alberta tar sands right >here in mainland BC, but 'they' are obfuscating this with >debate about "offshore" oil drilling! :P RM> There's something to be said for hoarding something like oil RM> until you Really need to use your own as well.. GP>It's not like that -- when I say "we have" I mean geographically, not >fiscally... GP>They're all owned by the big American corps. . . I wasn't aware a foreign power could own Canadian resources outright but if that is the case then the 'problem' is already out of our hands since we don't own it.. GP>I've figured it out. . . GP>One day the Middle East is going to dry up and/or close access, then the corp >will use up their wells here in Canada, and when those are all dry, they'll >still have Okie, Texas, & California and they'll have a complete monopoly on >the last reserves of crude oil! GP>Then when we approach them for a bit of consideration, because we helped them >out so much, the response will be, "hey, this is business!" Agreed to a point.. that being that if a Government decides it needs oil that a corporation is refusing to sell them then that corporation will 'go away'.. Govenments are very efficient when it comes to their own survival... We have one small advantage in Canada.. The tar sands are vast and so difficult to get oil out of that it will probably still be around long after all the liquid oil has been used up. In any case I have no doubt that a replacement will be found once a shortage becomes an actual fact rather than just a political or corporate tool to control gas and oil prices. We all need energy for almost everything we do and you can get energy out of almost anything organic or hydrocarbon based if you set your mind to it. Not to mention Nuclear, Solar, Tidal, Geothermal and Wind Power generation. They are expensive or have other problems but as the price of oil increases they start to look a lot more attractive to most people in a position to decide whether to persue them or not. --- * SLMR Rob * Look out for #1...
