I wasn't aware a foreign power could own Canadian resources outright
but if that is the case then the 'problem' is already out of our hands
since we don't own it..

Agreed to a point.. that being that if a Government decides it
needs oil that a corporation is refusing to sell them then
that corporation will 'go away'.. Govenments are very efficient
when it comes to their own survival...

We have one small advantage in Canada.. The tar sands are vast
and so difficult to get oil out of that it will probably still
be around long after all the liquid oil has been used up.

In any case I have no doubt that a replacement will be found
once a shortage becomes an actual fact rather than just a
political or corporate tool to control gas and oil prices.

We all need energy for almost everything we do and you can get
energy out of almost anything organic or hydrocarbon based
if you set your mind to it. Not to mention Nuclear, Solar,
Tidal, Geothermal and Wind Power generation. They are expensive
or have other problems but as the price of oil increases they
start to look a lot more attractive to most people in a position
to decide whether to persue them or not.
