From: "Dave Ings"
I recognize the argument, and in my view the problem is that almost any
desirable business of substantial size can (and usually does) make it when
trying to justify government hand-outs.
To name but one example, the auto industry has worked this argument to
perfection the past decade and has received direct (usually state or
provincial) subsidies of hundreds of millions of dollars towards new plant
construction.
I believe it's far better for government to set the rules, create a level
playing field, and then get out of the way. It really appalls me when the
so called "capitalists" leading corporations turn to government
for hand-outs, which after all, at the end of the day are collected from
the populace under duress.
