One of the arguments in favor of supporting Amtrak is how little it is
subsidized compared to air travel and the highway infrastructure.  I recall
reading that none of the airlines operate in the black-- they are all
subsidized in one way or another.  Of course I have no source for that, but
I'll throw it out for comment.
